RE: Grandparents missing - Destin 5th Wheel rental

When I read the topic title, I thought you meant your grandparents had rented a 5th wheel, and now they are missing!

RE: NO HOT WATER

Is this a new rig? Have you ever had hot water? It is possible that the bypass valve is thrown the wrong way.

RE: costly mistake. 5 wheelers please read.

. Is that the problem the claw opens up and releases the hitch? .Not usually. Those claws have the pivot point at the back, so when the trailer is pulling, they are actually pulling it closed, rather than trying to pull them open, as you might expect.

RE: costly mistake. 5 wheelers please read.

Wow that hurts. Somewhere on this forum I read where it was suggested when you are ready to move the rig (all hitched up), only raise the landing gear nominally 1 inch above the ground; enough that you can pull forward a few feet without the landing gear touching the ground. With the trailer brakes applied (manually) roll forward such that the trailer brakes are holding you in place; then pull a little harder to make sure the hitch jaws are holding. If they fail the trailer will drop back down on the landing gear. The landing gear much cheaper to replace than bent bead rails. It's called a pull test. (do a search here, you will find dozens of threads about it) My Reese manual says this is mandatory. You raise the legs about 1/2 inch, they shouldn't be damaged if the trailer comes loose.

RE: costly mistake. 5 wheelers please read.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Some people say there are two types of 5th wheelers, those who have dropped, and those who will soon. Do you know what the problem was? What kind of hitch do you have?

RE: One slide works, the other doesn't - HELP!!!

Did you remove the switch from the wall and check for loose wires? If it were mine, I would swap the switch with the other slide, just to rule that out too.

RE: Flat Panel TV - shake, rattle and roll!

I have a 32 in Samsung and a 15 inch Polaroid, they both ride on the bed when going down the road, no problems after almost 2 years and 20,000 miles.

RE: Best route Vegas - Yosemite towing a 5er?

I took my 31ft 5er through the Mt Zion tunnel coming in from the east. Costs 10 bucks, I was coming from Moab down the 89 and going to Springdale. It was cool to have them close the tunnel just for me! It's not that bad going down, you are going slow, so no big deal.

RE: Best route Vegas - Yosemite towing a 5er?

Oh, sorry for confusion. Lee Vining is not a place to stay and visit the park. If you can't get a reservation inside the park (it is hard in high season) El Portal is the closest town to the park that has an RV park.

RE: Yosemite Mid-August - no reservations

Spring break is a great time, I have done it a couple times. Weather is always unpredictable at that time. I have seen snow, rain, sun, all in a week! park is not fully open at that time, however. Glacier point will be closed, as will the tioga road. Some of the trails, such as Mist Trail will also be closed. Since you are a teacher, you can still go in June or early July, both are still good, and have the benefit of everything being open. August coulud be a good month to go to the high country, and the huge first come first served campground at Toulemne meadows.

RE: Ford V10 Spark Plug Thread inserts - - Did all 10 cylinders

U'r VIN # for u'r engine must be a 2000 cause Ford fixed that problem with deeper plug threads into the head for the 2001 engines.Mine is a 2002 and i blew out a plug.

RE: Trailer Tire Scam?

ST tires should cost less! If the LT tire is a good brand, then buy it!

RE: Yosemite Mid-August - no reservations

Frank is right. I went once in August, and I will NEVER go again then! heat, crowds, no water in the falls. Worst month to visit. If you want to go this year, go soon! Up to middle of July is still good. Or go for fall colors in late Oct, early Nov, or go in winter for a real treat! Best part about later months, no crowds!

RE: Yosemite Mid-August - no reservations

There are some forest service campgrounds I think outside the south entrance. El Portal has an RV park, that might still have room. There are a few first come, first served in the park, Bridalveil comes to mind. I would guess that if you can arrive during the week, and get there before 10AM, park and walk around till you see someone packing up and stand there to claim it. Getting there early is hard from so cal sometimes. There is an Indian casino just south of Oakhurst that allows free camping in the parking lot. You can get there the night before, then bright and early get to the park. The tolumne meadows campground is also half first come. They have over 300 sites, so that might be an option, but that is even further drive. There are a few other first come campgrounds in the park, go to the park's website.

RE: Ford V10 Spark Plug Thread inserts - - Did all 10 cylinders

Wow, what a job! How long did it take? I had one plug blowout a few years ago. I had a service contract and the Ford dealer installed a brand new head on that side. At that time, I also had the other 9 plugs replaced. There is no way I could do this job, do you have any hints for me to keep it from happening again? I just passed 100k miles, and don't have any money for repairs or a new truck, so this thing has to last me several more years!
